Content Differences Between HSI and LinkedIn Learning
Our goal at HSI is to provide your employees with off-the-shelf training to improve the skills that will ultimately help your employees and your company be more successful.
Microlearning Videos
Our employee training and development videos are designed with the science of microlearning in mind. According to research, employees are interrupted every 11 minutes. This is why we work to keep the length of our courses 7-10 minutes or less.
The science shows microlearning is a more effective way to engage employees. It makes the most of their divided attention and information learned is typically retained and applied. Complex topics are shortened to more digestible, short-form videos. Each video has a clear beginning, middle, and end. Our courses can stand alone or be a part of a series.
Longer videos on LinkedIn Learning are broken down into smaller bits, but the host begins speaking immediately with no introduction or indication that a new topic is beginning. The videos appear to be longer courses divided up into chapters. If you happen to search for a topic, chances are you might find a video that is actually a smaller chapter in the middle of a longer course. This can make the video feel abrupt and the content may assume you have viewed the previous chapters. There may be important context you're missing. In other words, LinkedIn Learning's videos don't necessarily stand alone.
State-Specific Harassment Compliance Training
Our workplace sexual harassment compliance training courses will keep you in legal compliance with state and federal regulations while creating a respectful, safe, and fair environment for your employees. We offer state-specific anti-harassment compliance courses for California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, New York City and New York State.
In our research, we did not find any courses in LinkedIn Learning's library for state-specific compliance laws.
Active Shooter Training
HSI Active Shooter Training teaches active violence emergency response training. You’ll learn how to recognize the signs of danger, react appropriately, and make rapid survival decisions. Our training empowers people to have a survival plan. We go beyond active shooter response training by also teaching how to control life-threatening bleeding. The training involves an instructor development course and on-site training.
LinkedIn Learning does not offer active shooter training.
Safety Training
HSI has 2.7M online, award-winning safety training course completions a year. Our Safety Training Needs Assessment helps you connect the dots between your workforce training program and what the law requires. The HSI content department works with experienced experts who have worked in safety across multiple industries to ensure our content meets regulatory requirements and best practices.
LinkedIn Learning’s safety training appears to be limited. Our review of LinkedIn Learning’s website only shows a small listing of safety training courses. You may want to ask a LinkedIn Learning salesperson to verify how many safety courses they offer, what regulations the training meets, and who they utilize as content experts.
Industrial Skills Training
HSI acquired SOS Intl and Martech Media to strengthen our Industrial Skills training. The combined training libraries with more than 480 off-the-shelf courses provide technical training for power, manufacturing, central utility, and oil & gas industries. Our comprehensive technical training provides a single source for preparing system operators, qualified electric workers, and maintenance workers to perform their roles efficiently and reliably. We offer off-the-shelf online or instructor-led training and custom development for your specific needs.
LinkedIn Learning does not offer Industrial Skills training.
OSHA 10- and 30-Hour Training for Certification
HSI is part of an exclusive list of companies recognized as an OSHA-Authorized Online Outreach Training Provider for OSHA 10 and 30 training. HSI is also the only provider on the market to provide updated engaging content for OSHA 10 and 30 in both English and Spanish.
LinkedIn Learning is not included on the list of OSHA-authorized companies for OSHA 10 & 30 training.
First Responder Continuing Education Training
HSI offers over 100 online video-based, self-directed continuing education courses. EMS experts present engaging scenarios, and real-life footage to stimulate learning. Download our free Course Catalog by simply filling out a quick form. Courses meet current national EMS, fire training standards. They are approved for continuing education in every state. HSI is a CAPCE accredited organization.
LinkedIn Learning does not offer First Responder Continuing Education Training.

CPR, AED, and First Aid Training
HSI offers extensive CPR, AED, and First Aid Training. The programs meet the requirements of over 7,000 state regulatory agencies, occupational licensing boards, national associations, commissions, and councils in more than 550 occupations and professions.
Training supplies, such as, AEDs, CPR manikins, are shipped anywhere in the U.S. We offer in-person training in all 50 states as well as providing blended learning and remote skills verification (RSV). The videos are engaging and come complete with skill guides and PowerPoint presentations. HSI also offers training to become an instructor. We grant reciprocity for current instructors of other programs.
LinkedIn Learning does not offer CPR, AED nor First Aid Training.

Custom Content
HSI can create custom training videos for your unique needs. Our expert team will work with you to develop a script tailored to your messaging, brand, and learning points. Our graphic designers create compelling presentations to engage your learners. Bring your voice to the content with a presenter from your company or use one of our professional talents.
In our research, it did not appear that LinkedIn Learning offers this capability.
Technology Platform Differences Between HSI and LinkedIn Learning
Customize for Your Company and Brand
HSI has an intuitive user interface that offers customization features. Features include a welcome video that admins can create and personalize when new users are added to the training program. The background image on login screen can be easily customized with branding and images. Users may change the color on the main navigation screen. The customization features also include default selections, turn on/off features and pre-roll videos.
It’s unclear if LinkedIn Learning offers customization features.
Customize by Users
Dashboard Customization: Our platform offers the ability for both admins and learners to customize their dashboard by dragging and dropping elements or resizing elements, as needed. Administrators can choose the default widgets that learners see upon the first login. Learners can also add additional widgets, resize, and rearrange. Admins can write customized personalized messages on the main dashboard for learners.
It does not appear LinkedIn Learning offers this capability.
Admin Functionality
Authoring Tool: Our award-winning, user-friendly eLearning authoring tool comes built into our platform at no additional charge. Using the webcam, you can record your own audio or create short videos when you need to complement your usual training. Users can also use the professional editing and recording tools to add special effects and edit out the “ums and ahs,” etc.
In our research on LinkedIn Learning, we found no offering of either a paid or free authoring tool. You can upload your custom content to the Learning platform, but there is no tool to record new courses.
Reporting: HSI’s automated reporting provides easy set-up and scheduling of reports. Reports can be automatically scheduled and emailed. Several types of default reports include course attendance, frequent users, and highly viewed training topics.
It’s unclear if LinkedIn Learning offers automated or custom reporting.
Exam Editor: HSI’s exam editor tool creates exams and follow-up quizzes. It allows admins the ability to add custom exam questions. They may also change scoring requirements, as needed.

Course Consideration Differences Between HSI and LinkedIn Learning
Single-Source Provider
HSI takes pride in being a single-source partner for EHS, Compliance, and Professional Development solutions. Your company does not need to contract with multiple providers to source all the different types of training your company requires. HSI offers ETD, state-specific workplace compliance, safety and active shooter training, industrial skills training, OSHA 10-and 30-hour training for certification, first responder continuing education training, CPR & AED, and First Aid training. And HSI offers cloud-based software solutions like safety management.
With LinkedIn Learning you’ll need to go to other providers for such subject matter and software.
Instructional Design
Our staff of expert instructional designers works hard to make sure our content provides learning that supports your objectives. Our instructional design methodology dictates our course length, supports all learning styles, and drives our graphics, text, music, and pacing. There's truly a science behind the art of microlearning in our videos.
In our research, LinkedIn Learning uses some instructional design in their strategy. However, influencers and celebrities create most of their courses. It may be compelling and entertaining content, but it is unclear if they employ instructional design.
Training Reinforcement
In our HSI platform, all courses are immediately followed by a series of prompted exam questions (4tify Your Learning). Additional quiz prompts and a short video recap are emailed periodically over the next four months. This helps keep the training content top-of-mind after the initial training event is completed. These practical training reinforcement tools help create stronger content recall and application in the workplace, further supporting your learning objectives.
Some of the courses on LinkedIn Learning have exercise files available for download. Some have interactive quizzes after taking the course. However, our research did not find any additional training reinforcement after the competition of the first quiz.
Personalized Support
As a client of HSI, you will receive continuous, personalized support at no additional charge. Our Customer Success Managers (CSMs) provide high-touch service that begins with your implementation and continues with ongoing support throughout the duration of your contract. Each client is assigned a CSM who will remain with them to help with everything from launch support, training on our platform, course recommendations, all to help you meet your learning goals.
In our research, we did not find any personal support from LinkedIn Learning. There is a live online chat and a way to create a support ticket, but no guarantee that you’ll get the same person every time.
Pricing Differences Between HSI and LinkedIn Learning
HSI takes time to understand your unique needs. We’ll meet with you about your training goals. You’ll receive a customized bid from HSI. If we are using your content, pricing is based on cost-per-finished minute. You will not receive any additional charges for features launched during the contract period.
LinkedIn Learning’s website has rate card pricing based upon number of seats and if more than 21 seats you must contact sales.
